Thailand Only 77 Province Photowalk project creating history on 27 September

In celebration of the World Tourism Day 2014, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Google Thailand are inviting everyone in the kingdom to take part in an epic event, #ThailandOnly 77-Province Photowalk project, held within one day on 27 September.

The grand opening ceremony, presided over by the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, took place from 09.00-12.0009.00-12.00 hrs. at Wat Pho or the Temple of the Reclining Buddha in Bangkok. Highlights included Thai and English broadcasts and VDO call sessions through Google+ Hangouts On Air at 10.00 hrs. via web google.com/+Thailand and web youtube.com/thailand, followed by Photowalk activities at Wat Pho and around Rattanakosin Island.

Mrs. Kobkarn said, “Today marks a proud moment for Thailand’s tourism. Thai people nationwide are joining hands to create history for the kingdom’s tourism. We would like to invite everyone, both the Thai people and foreign expatriates, to ‘shoot and share’ their memorable experiences and impressions of Thailand, to be a part of helping to promote our beloved country to the world.”

The #ThailandOnly 77-Province Photowalk project invites all Thai people, expatriates, tourists and online communities throughout Thailand to ‘shoot and share’ photos of tourist attractions, arts and traditions and beautiful lifestyles of Thailand with the Google+ Community “Amazing Thailand” by posting with the hashtag #ThailandOnly on 27 September, 2014.

Mr. Sugree Sithivanich, Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications of TAT said, “Thailand boasts 77 provinces; each has own distinctive charm. So we have created this project with Google Thailand to encourage locals and tourists alike to share to the world that everywhere in Thailand is always beautiful and everyone here is ready to welcome all tourists with the famous Thai hospitality.”

TAT and Google Thailand expect to attract about one million photos shared on the event’s date. More than 5,000 people throughout Thailand have already registered to participate in the event via web tourismthailand.org/photowalk .The Photo sharing activity using #ThailandOnly will run until 31 October, 2014. A digital exhibition of all #ThailandOnly photos is being planned to create yet another milestone for Thailand’s tourism.

The #ThailandOnly 77-Province Photowalk is a part of the #ThailandOnly project that TAT and Google Thailand have introduced since 2013 to encourage the Thai people in creating picture stories of their beloved country in their best-known point of view and share to all tourists around the world through Google+ and Google.com.

In 2013, the #ThailandOnlyproject attracted more than 1 million followers throughout Thailand, and more than one million pictures were shared with more than one billion impressions. The initiative has also created much hype during the two most famous Thai festivals with people sharing more than 100,000 pictures of Loi Krathong Festival 2013 with #ThailandOnly, making it the world’s biggest online album on Loi Krathong in Thailand.

In 2014, numerous pictures of Songkran Festival around Thailand were also shared with #ThailandOnly and #Songkran. The activity broke the record, putting #ThailandOnly in the top trending on Google+ and making it the first time that a hashtag from Thailand had been ranked in top trending in the world.

The #ThailandOnly project also won Gold Award for Marketing Media, Social Media from Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) in 2013.
