Winter festivities in Britain

Winder Wonderlands, tasty treats, spectacular illuminations; Britain\'s winter festivities will soon be upon us and now is the ideal time to start planning your trip Britain to celebrate! Take a look at some of the festive events lined up for November and December in Britain.

Hogwarts in the Snow, Warner Bros. Studio Tour 14 November 2015 - 31 January 2016

The breathtaking Hogwarts castle model at the Warner Bros. Studios will once again be covered in a blanket of snow this autumn and winter. Visitors can even imagine themselves to be a pupil at Hogwarts when they discover the Great Hall that will be decorated with the original props seen during the Christmas feast in Harry Potter and the Philosopher\'s Stone. Eight Christmas trees will line the iconic set with two long dining tables dressed with seasonal feasts. Magical!

Regent Street Christmas Lights 15November 

Regent Street\'s Christmas lights switch-on is always a spectacular occasion, with a firework display marking the moment the lights come on. This year is set to be a star-studded event with family activities throughout the evening.


Christmas Afternoon Tea, Claridges Hotel from 16 November


Laurent Perrier Champagne, festively themed finger sandwiches, handmade pastries and Christmas pudding; why not experience the ultimate in Christmas treats with the dedicated Christmas afternoon tea at luxury London hotel Claridges. Guests dining at weekends will also be able to enjoy Christmas Carols in the hotel\'s foyer.


Hyde Park Winter Wonderland 20November - 3January 2016 


Every year, Hyde Park is transformed into a magical winter extravaganza. The Winter Wonderland experience is free to enter with tickets on sale for ice skating, the magical ice kingdom, Zippos circus, the giant wheel and the ice bar. Once you\'ve whipped up an appetite from all the fun, head over to the food market bursting with tasty treats.



Christmas at Kew Gardens 25 November - 2 January 2016 


Kew Gardens will be open past dark once again and visitors can follow an illuminated trail through the gardens, which will feature a spectacular light installation; this year\'s trail features a Christmas tree theme. Customers wishing to experience the trail during both day and night time will benefit from discounted entry tickets for day-time entry.



Christmas Cinema, Berkeley Hotel 1 - 26 December

Snuggle up with loved ones and watch festive classics on the outdoor screen while keeping warm with homemade hot chocolate and Moncler blankets on The Berkeley\'s rooftop garden. The garden will be filled with pines and there will also be three wooden chalet-inspired cabins accommodating two people.


Westminster Abbey

More than a thousand years of history lies in Westminster Abbey; Benedictine monks arrived to the site in the mid-tenth century and established a tradition of daily worships, which continue to this day, and it\'s the resting place of 17 monarchs. Free tickets to its special Christmas services, which welcome more than 12,000 worshippers every year, are available to book in advance.


Christmas in the Castle, Bodiam Castle, East Sussex, south-east England 5 - 6, 12 - 13, 19 - 22 December
Enjoy Christmas traditions both old and new at Bodiam Castle as you join Father Christmas in his grotto at this 600-year-old castle. There\'s presents and decoration-making for the children while adults can enjoy mince pie and a glass of ‘wassail\' (also known as mulled wine!) to warm them up.
Medieval characters will also be on hand to entertain you with stories of a medieval Christmas.

Bristol\'s German Christmas Market, south-west England 6 November - 22 December
Come and experience the traditional German Christmas Market in the heart of Bristol\'s shopping quarter. A key feature of the market is a 13-metre high ‘Christmas Pyramid\' with a giant rotating nativity scene and advent calendar. There will also be entertainment from Der Alpen Klaus, delivering Bavarian style music as well as his own versions of popular music and of course, Christmas style music, too!


At-Bristol Ice Rink, south-west England 7 November - 5 January 2016


Round up a day\'s shopping in Bristol with a trip to its annual festive ice rink, which this year will be hosting a ‘Disco Boots\' evenings as well as ‘Little Boots\' morning session for children under the age of eight. If you come in the evening, grab a hot chocolate and skate under the festive lights to festive music.


Frankfurt Christmas Market, Birmingham, central England 12 November - 22 December

Tempt your taste buds with hot chocolate, mulled cider and gluhwein as you explore the traditional German Christmas market in the heart of Birmingham\'s city centre. Buy traditional Christmas decorations, take a ride on the carousel, and get into the Christmas spirit with a singalong the singing moose - Chris Moose!


Longleat Festival of Light, Wiltshire, south-west England 13 November - 3 January 2016

Europe\'s largest display on Chinese lanterns will once again turn stately home Longleat into a festival of light this winter, including spectacular lanterns of a traditional Chinese Dragon Boat and the Terracotta Army. The event will also feature an ice skating rink, giant musical Christmas tree, fairy tale characters and the Santa Express train!


Isle of Wight Festive Guided Tours of Osbourne, south-east England: 18 November - 19 December

Queen Victoria\'s  family home features an Indian-inspired banqueting room which will be dressed with a festive feel for the annual Christmas tours. Experience tour guides will explain the royal family\'s Christmas traditions while you view the seasonal ground floor rooms.


Castle Howard, Yorkshire, north England 21 November - 23 December

One of England\'s finest historic house, Castle Howard, will be decked in hundreds of candles and baubles this festive season. The 300-year old stately home, packed with stunning architecture and interiors, as well as world-renowned art collections, also offers the festive reveller a  gift shop, farm shop and garden centre where you can look for that perfect Christmas gift to take home.


Shakespeare\'s Birthplace, Stratford up on Avon, west England  26 Nov - 19 Dec, Thursday, Friday & Saturday evenings

Visit a new, free immersive light show this winter at Shakespeare\'s Birthplace in Stratford upon Avon as visitors are invited to take control, choosing which part of the house to explore and open up like a dolls house.  Inside, see young William explore each room, finding words and moments that will shape his future writing, before heading into the garden to experience an interactive illumination. www.shakespeare.org.uk


Edinburgh\'s Christmas 20 November - January 2016

Edinburgh\'s picturesque architecture provides the perfect festive backdrop for Christmas shopping, and winter events taking place in the Scottish capital. In East Princes Street Gardens, there will be fairground attractions, including the Start Flyer, ice rink and big wheel, as well as a Santa Land, Christmas Tree Maze and a Children\'s Market.
In St Andrews Square, there will be shows and entertainment in the Paradiso Spiegeltent, a circular ice rink around the Melville Monument, a helter skater, a traditional carousel and a Scottish Market where you can stock up on local delicacies such as black pudding and Scottish seafood, craft bins and locally distilled gins.


Glasgow Style Mile Christmas Carnival 22 November 

Where better to shop for gifts that Glasgow\'s Style Mile! Browse among the malls, independent boutiques, designer stores, and one off-speciality shops in this mainly pedestrianised area of the city and then enjoy the carnival that heralds the start of the festive season, bringing the streets and precincts alive with festive cheer.


Inverness Winter Festivals, Inverness, north Scotland 22 November - 31 December
The switching on of the lights marks the beginning of the festive celebrations in Inverness. Other events will include fun rides and experiences at the Winter Wonderland in Whin Park from 11 - 13 December, where Whin Park is turned into a Wonderland with some fantastic illuminations as Santa Claus visits the city with his reindeers.



Cardiff Christmas Market, south Wales
12November - 23 December

Cardiff\'s Christmas market gives visitors the opportunity to sample local products from small, local, Welsh businesses - the perfect take home gift! Pick up some pewter or Welsh slate products, hand-built and thrown pottery, silver and precious stone jewellery and local textiles.



Llandudno Christmas Fayre, north Wales: 19 - 22 November

One of Wales\' largest Christmas markets with more than140 stalls to browse, the event offers local produce to buy - for example, you\'ll find beers from the many microbreweries in the area - as well as demonstrations on how to create homemade Christmas gifts. Children will be thrilled with the opportunity to visit Santa in his Grotto!


Swansea Waterfront Winterland, south Wales: 13 November - 3 January 2016

Festive spirit comes to the city of Swansea, an hour\'s train journey from the capital Cardiff, with two ice-skating rinks, festive themed rides, and festive goodies to eat and drink. Take the children along to Santa\'s Grotto for children before popping in at one of the many craft sessions on offer, and sit back and enjoy the Christmas concerts and music performances playing throughout the festive season.


Santa Steam Specials, across Wales throughout December
