Al Ain Zoo organises a day out for Orphaned children as part of ‘Ibtissama’ Initiative

Al Ain Zoo recently welcomed a group of orphaned children, treating them to a fun day out as part of the ‘Ibtissama’ initiative launched earlier this year under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, Chairperson of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural Centre.

Al Ain Zoo’s Discovery and Learning Centre organised an array of educational and cultural activities for the children who were greeted with a warm welcome at the entrance, followed by a train tour around the Zoo. The children then took part in giraffe feeding and reptile handling, before taking in a performance of the Zoo’s popular Bird Show. The group also got the opportunity to participate in an informative session about the Zoo’s animals and keepers, followed by a trip to the Children’s Zoo to learn more and interact with some of the UAE’s native species.

Commenting on the visit, Muna Al Dhaheri, the Chief of Conservation and Education at Al Ain Zoo said:

\"Al Ain Zoo is an important part of the community in Al Ain and we encourage a culture of active participation in initiatives as part of our social responsibility strategy. Al Ain Zoo is a premier destination that reflects our vision of harmonious coexistence between people, wildlife and nature, and showcasing the UAE’s rich history and heritage. We are dedicatedly striving to achieve this vision, not only through continued innovation within the Zoo, but also through operational excellence and strategic partnerships. We would like to thank the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural Centre for organising this event, further reflecting our commitment to establishing a collaborative community and a sustainable economy.”

Al Ain Zoo is a member of the World Association for Zoo and Aquaria (WAZA) and is actively involved in several internationally coordinated conservation projects, working with other like-minded organisations such as Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, the Species Survival Commission, San Diego Zoo, the Northern Rangelands Trust of Kenya and the Sahara Conservation Fund, to conserve and re-introduce threatened arid land species such as Arabian Oryx and Scimitar-horned Oryx to their natural habitat.
