Thailand Cycling Trip 2016 launched by Cycle Trip Asia

Following successful cycling holidays arranged for enthusiasts in the UAE to Thailand, Cambodia and Jordan, local cyclists are once again invited to join a group trip to Thailand in April 2016 with the opportunity to participate in a 5-stage race around the Thailand countryside.

The Thailand Cycling Trip 2016 takes place from 29 April to 8 May 2016 and combines participation in an international race tour alongside cyclists from around the world – the Tour of Friendship Thailand – as well as an extension ride along the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand for the UAE participants only.

Inaugurated after the 13thAsian Games in Bangkok, 1998, the Tour of Friendship R1 is limited to 200 participants and famed for its friendly, fun atmosphere. Growing from an initial 60 riders to an anticipated limit of 200 cyclists in 2016, the race offers the opportunity for cyclists to participate in a professionally organised stage event, have fun, and connect with riders from around the world.  With over 120 experienced staff supporting the ride, complete with police escorts and emergency services, the race is safe and well organised.

Trophies are presented after each stage to the first 5 to finish, with a total of five stages over five days.  The five stages take place around Kanchanaburi, just outside of Bangkok, with a different course each day. All accommodation, transportation and meals are included for both the race itself and the additional days the group from the UAE will spend in Thailand.  Interested participants should be accustomed to riding in a peloton and covering distances ranging from 60 km to 130 km each day. Day 1 starts with a 7km time trial with riders then divided into different categories, each covering varying distances, depending on age and fitness level.

Supported by Wolfi’s Bike Shop, participation from Dubai is co-ordinated by local cyclist, Thomas Tapken via Cycle Trip Asia.  Tapken also arranged the previous successful group trips to Thailand, Cambodia and Jordan.

Costs per person for the complete itinerary will be around AED 11,000 including:-

  • Roundtrip airfare Dubai/Bangkok/Dubai
  • Accommodation
  • Food and beverages
  • Race participation
  • Guide
  • All transportation within Thailand

Insurance and entry visa to Thailand (where applicable) are not included.

Participation in the race is limited to 200 cyclists, so early registration is essential with a deposit of AED 3,000 before end November.   Non-cycling partners are also welcome for those wishing to combine a cycling experience with an extended holiday
