Austrian National Tourist Office presents first ever tourism game app

Taking pictures and sharing them with friends is a major part of every holiday. A new game app for smartphones and tablets enables its users to take fun snapshots of himself/herself in front of famous attractions on a virtual tour through Austria. The photos can be shared instantly with friends on Facebook, Twitter, via Email or text message. A new “facemapping” technology enables the user to create a personalized avatar that has the user’s real face on it. Different outfits and hairstyles can be selected and the avatar can pose in various positions in front of different attractions.


“You like sharing holiday snapshots with your friends? How about sharing snapshots of yourself on a virtual holiday? We want to invite people to take an instant holiday in those moments that we spend on our smartphones several times a day”, explains Klaus Ehrenbrandtner, Regional Director Asia & Middle East for the Austrian National Tourist Office. He and his team developed the game app for the Asian market. It is available in English, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese. Korean and Taiwanese language. “It is a short holiday break from everyday life and a fun way to send a message to loved ones.”


The app features three game modes to test the users’ skills: hiking in Tyrol, boat-riding in Salzburg and waltzing in Vienna. In each game the user collects coins to unlock new destinations and new moves and poses for the avatar. The app is called “Austria Snapshot Adventure” and is available free of charge on App Store for Apple devices and on Google Play for Android phones and tablets.

Win a trip to Austria every week for eight weeks


The game app will offer many possibilities to win trips to Austria to visit the featured attractions for real. From April 19 to June 14, users can win a trip for two including return flight with Austrian Airlines to Vienna and stay in a 5*-hotel every week for eight weeks in a row. Every time a user shares or posts a holiday snapshot s/he will enter the raffle. Every Sunday a winner will be drawn out of all entries.


Austria – fastest growing European destination


Austria has been the fastest growing European destination in the GCC travel market. The number of guests from the Middle East travelling to Austria has increased sevenfold (+ 600%) in the last 10 years. In 2014, Austria welcomed more than 300,000 guests from the Middle East, the majority coming from Saudi-Arabia (90,000) and the UAE (85,000).


Euro zone best value for money in 2015 – due to exchange rate


“We expect further growth in 2015, so it would be the 5th record year in a row. The current exchange rate makes Austria very attractive in terms of value for money. The Euro is about 20% cheaper than it was in the last years and that will clearly reflect on rates for hotels and tours in the whole Euro zone!”, says Klaus Ehrenbrandtner.
