Visitors Experience THE THRILL OF Sailing at Dubai International Boat Show

Visitors to Dubai International Boat Show are trying out their sea legs, with show features that carry guests away from the shoreline for a real taste of life on the open water. The Out-At-Sea Sailing Experience, Fishing Trip Experience, and Hands-On Boating Experience, offer live introductions to popular segments of the leisure marine lifestyle.

The Out-At-Sea Sailing Experience, run in conjunction with Eden Yachting, one of Dubai’s leading luxury yacht sales and charter companies, hosts 14 adventurous visitors daily for action-packed sailing experience on one of the world’s most advanced sailing yachts, the Volvo Ocean 60. This is the same yacht that was designed and built to circumnavigate the world in the Volvo Ocean Race. Impressive to look at and thrilling to sail on, the yacht can accommodate 14 passengers, along with a skipper and two to three experienced crew members.

“A lot of people imagine that sailing is a gentle sport when they see it from the shore, but when the wind comes up, and the deck tilts, the excitement level rises,” says Phillippe Falle, skipper of the Volvo V60. “A yacht like this is designed to harness the power of nature, and even for people how have been out on other boats, sailing on the Volvo Ocean 60 can be something completely new, a real action sport.”

Those who want to experience the most affordable and accessible way to experience the magic of wind and water should head for the Beach Demo Area, for an introduction to small boat sailing with dinghies and catamarans, in association with Watercooled UAE.

The Fishing Trip Experience, arranged by Boat Pilot UAE, offers a more relaxed way of enjoying the water, as experienced guides introduce basic fishing and trolling techniques, as well as more advanced details – getting the right combination of hook and line for particular species, which species to look for in particular areas. Guests learn as they fish – as the boat makes its way between the Dubai International Marine Club and the Burj al Arab – and hopefully make their first catch of sherry or barracuda, to eat and enjoy when they get home.

“Fishing all about having fun, getting a sense a personal achievement, spending time with yourself or with friends, and breathing in the fresh sea air,” says Khamis Al Matrooshi, owner of Boat Pilot. “It’s relaxing, but it is also a challenge, learning how to find the right place to drop your line into the water, where to find particular species, and how to entice the fish to bite. So far, we’ve been fully booked!”

For first-time boat owners wanting to improve their skills, the Hands-On Boating Experience from Marine Concept Sea School provides an introduction to some basic motor boat skills and safety tips, including basic safety equipment, vessel check outs, rope work, and basic knots as well, as docking and undocking in a confined area.
