IHG has proven once again its commitment and its great efforts towards supporting and improving the standards and the lifestyles of the local community. It also aims at applying its successful practices to other parts of the world. Case in point is the successful participation and contribution of both Crowne Plaza Jordan Dead Sea Resort & Spa and Holiday Inn Resort Dead Sea at the 2017 Global Youth Economic Opportunities Summit that took place in the USA, to talk about IHG Academy, its performance, results, and challenges in the Dead Sea.

Upon Dr. Joseph Ruddy’s invitation (Team Leader, Jordan Tourism, Chemonics International Inc), both Dead Sea properties took part in one of the most important sessions that the summit introduced that was facilitated by Chemonics International Inc and InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) was featured under Track 2 - Ready for the Global Workforce. The session title was: The Intersection of Tourism and Youth Development: Innovating the Future of Work for Youth in Jordan, where Ms. Kimberly Allen-Mills, Area Director of Human Resources, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) was part of the panel that discussed the future of work for youth in developing countries across the world. In Jordan, there continues to be a wealth of opportunity for youth people to engage in the growing tourism market, demonstrative of incredible work to engage youth where they are in the development of innovative solutions through private-sector partnerships with both local and international organizations. The Jordan Valley communities are some of the most vulnerable in Jordan, despite the coveted Dead Sea tourism destination.

The tourism market will demand 20,000 jobs in the next four years; however, unemployed youth in the Valley lack basic primary education as well as basic English language skills necessary for employment at major hotels and resorts in the area. This session dived into a scaled model of hospitality training—a “learning through practice” program that builds the foundation for unemployed youth from the Valley to enter the workforce with skills that are transferable to the global hospitality industry. The InterContinental Hotels Group partners with Jordan Tourism project to establish a Hospitality Training Academy (IHG Academy), to actively target both young women and young men in the Jordan Valley as potential trainees. The initiative is coupled with tourism awareness training programs for women in Valley communities, teaching them how to deliver the message on career opportunities in tourism.
