Abu Dhabi Airports Opens Midfield Terminal Fire Station with Upgraded Capabilities

Abu Dhabi Airports unveiled its new Midfield Terminal Fire Station on Monday, December 11 with an opening ceremony that saw the attendance of the Acting Chief Executive Officer Abdul Majeed Al Khoori, the Acting Chief Program Officer Sulaiman Al Siksek, and a delegation comprising of the top media personalities of the UAE and the GCC.

Abdul Majeed Al Khoori, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports, said: “The opening of the Midfield Terminal Fire Station will enable us to continue to provide the high level of service that has made Abu Dhabi Airports one of the most renowned airports’ group in the world. It is efficiently designed with the most advanced and innovative capabilities that will help us meet our goal for response time, and ensure the delivery of adequate safety measures to the new gateway.”

The 4,100-square-metre, state-of-the-art building showcased eight response vehicles and facilitates 172 to 200 firefighters who will be the first responders for aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) and provide structural fire response to the Midfield terminal and other buildings and structures within the airside.

He added: “This is the ideal location to have the Midfield Terminal Fire Station. By being right in the centre of the two runways, fire trucks and first responders can get throughout the airport in just a few moments to serve any location in the airport premises, including all terminal buildings, and support the other existing fire stations.”

The impressive facility has been developed in collaboration with all relevant entities, and the construction and operational plans are fully compliant with the regulations and requirements of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense General Directorate and the General Civil Aviation Authority.

“The new fire station is a key facility for the expansion plans of the Capital’s airport and it has been designed in line with optimum safety and security standards, to handle dynamic emergency situations and potential hazards that could occur in an airport and its surrounding environment. As always, we have placed the safety and security of our passengers, employees and service providers, as a priority, when designing this world-class fire station,” he concluded.

Currently, Abu Dhabi International Airport includes four fully manned fire stations, 24/7, to respond to any fires or incidents on the runways or at the terminal buildings, in compliance with regulatory guidance from the General Civil Aviation Authority and the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO).
