How has Fujairah Tourism supported the opening and introduction of your property to the emirate?
The addition of Fairmont Fujairah Beach Resort contributes positively to the ever growing tourism sector in Fujairah and hospitality market in the northern emirates, and Fujairah Tourism has been supportive in drawing attention to the unique selling points of the resort, particularly as Fujairah marches towards its 2040 vision development plan of integrated sustainable growth in cultural heritage, infrastructure, sustainability and the environment.
What does the opening of Fairmont Fujairah Beach add to the competitive hospitality market in the Middle East?
Given Fairmont Fujairah Beach Resort’s strategic location, there is huge potential for the Emirate to attract and cater to UAE and GCC residents, as well as international travellers alike. A weak euro has hit the purchasing power of many European visitors to the GCC and UAE, for example, which may have caused some shift in demand from the more expensive Dubai, to Fujairah which boasts more interesting rates.
Other Emirates also continue to face challenges in meeting demand and addressing inventory issues, with Dubai having more than 42,000 rooms under contract – the largest pipeline of any city in the world. As such, we will continue to welcome the growing tourist footfall in the Northern Emirates, especially as they are drawn by competitive room rates compared with neighbouring Dubai.
What are your key source markets?
Fairmont Fujairah Beach Resort’s market targets include 50% GCC (mostly UAE) who appreciate the hotel’s unique design elements and quality service, and 50% international travellers, including European, German, Russian, Scandinavian, most of whom are looking for genuine beachfront resorts.
How will you attract MICE bookings to the property from neighbouring competitors Dubai and Abu Dhabi?
With an inventory of 180 rooms, the hotel doesn’t plan to cater to large meetings and events, but certainly to smaller incentive groups, which is what our main focus has been. Most of the MICE requests we receive are for board of director or VIP incentive meetings. This is the business we aim to target: a discerning clientele that appreciates personalised service within a high-calibre boutique and luxury resort. 
Please explain the reasons behind opening a Fairmont hotel in Fujairah? 
Fairmont Fujairah Beach Resort strives to be a pioneer in the luxury segment and to pave the way for more brands to set base in Fujairah.
According to the latest figures available, Fujairah’s tourism sector has boomed in the last few years. The Emirate has seen a 11.3% increase in occupancy over the previous year, and an increase of 10.1% in occupancy and 2.2% increase in ADR so far this year. 
And Fujairah will continue to welcome a growing tourist footfall, as travellers are drawn by competitive room rates compared with neighbouring Dubai and inventory issues continue to be a challenge for Dubai to meet a high demand. There is huge potential for Fairmont Fujairah Beach Resort to attract and cater to these travellers, particularly in our position as Fujairah’s only luxury resort. 
What is the significance of ATM for Fairmont Fujairah Beach Resort?
